Getting your child to want to learn

A free hour with a primary teacher of sixteen years. No cost, and nothing to commit to.

If home educating is going well for you, this one isn't for you. Scroll on, honestly.

Still reading? Then something isn't landing. You plan for an hour and teach for twenty minutes before the complaints start. You find a decent resource and it holds them for all of ninety seconds before they're doodling or staring out of the window. And the negotiating starts before the maths does.

The resource was probably fine. Getting your child to want it is a separate skill, and nobody ever showed you that one.

Save your place

This Thursday at 7pm. Free.

I'll send you the link, then a reminder before each session and anything useful in between. You can stop the emails whenever you like.

What you'll take away from the hour

They come to the table

Some simple techniques for getting a child interested enough that they'll sit down without it costing you the relationship you were trying to protect. Small things, the sort you can use the same week.

Less work, not more

This cuts your planning down rather than adding to it. You stop hunting for resources at ten o'clock at night and start building from what's already in the room.

And it sticks

When the learning turns up inside something your child already cares about, most of the resistance simply isn't there, and what they learn tends to stay learnt.

An hour, and I stay on at the end for questions. Ask me anything you like.

Mark Rajakrishnen

Who's running it

I'm Mark. Primary teacher, sixteen years and counting, and I'm still in classrooms most weeks on supply.

For years I mentored trainee and early career teachers alongside the job. People who cared, who knew their subject, and who just needed showing how to do it in front of a child. That's the same gap you're in. Different room, same missing piece.

I'm a teacher and a dad rather than a home educator, so I won't pretend to know what your Tuesday looks like. What I can do is show you the craft.

You already know your child. Nobody ever showed you the craft.
